Millions of parishioners gather in fellowship on Sunday mornings, turning to prayer for their salvation. Fortunately, the Grace Sturgis non-denominational church was mostly empty the morning of the Michigan deer season opener.
It seems that one whitetail deer wanted to join the flock, in a manner of speaking, when it busted through a window into the sanctuary of the church as the Michigan woods filled with blaze orange and firearms (kind of).
Pastors Amanda and Luke Eicher and Justin Wickey discovered the wayward 10-pointer and tried to block all exits to the sanctuary except the window through which the deer entered.
Amanda Eicher had the presence of mind to capture the fiasco with her camera.

“I was just shocked by how high he could jump,” Eicher said. “I was amazed at how big he was.”
The buck jumped up against the wall several times, navigated the stairs to the balcony, and when it couldn’t locate a way out, made it back down the steps and out the window, breaking some more glass as it did.
The Eichers didn’t notice any gunshot wound or injuries other than some minor bleeding, likely from blasting through the window.
According to the Grace Sturgis Facebook page, the pastors initially thought they had experienced a break-in of some sort. There was some damage to the building, but the pastors were confident that the buck left strengthened in the lord to go face his battles.
Whitetails busting into homes and businesses is not a new phenomenon.
