Every hunter can attest to just how miserable a day in the field can be if you don’t have the right layers. A shell that sheds water when it’s pouring, moisture-wicking base layers for frigid pre-dawn hikes, or an insulated jacket that’s easy on/easy off as Mother Nature changes her mind: These are important components in any hunters’ layering system.
Building on a thorough command of technical hunting apparel, Bozeman, Montana-based Sitka has just introduced the new Ambient Collection — an advanced insulated jacket and hoodie to complement their outerwear systems.
The new collection includes the Ambient jacket ($309) and hoodie ($279) available in Optifade Subalpine camo, and other Optifade patterns, as well as solid colors for men, and the Women’s Ambient jacket ($309) in Optifade subalpine and black.
John Barklow, big game product manager for Sitka, says the collection adds another level of versatility for hunters in the field.

Performance Tech and Specs
With most insulated jackets, durability is a tough nut to crack. Thick brush, thorns, and even rocky ground can wreak havoc on some reinforced shells, let alone a lightweight mid-layer.
Sitka uses a tough 20-denier ripstop nylon fabric that will stand up to the rough stuff, and its DWR finish will keep it from wetting out in the rain or damp snow. The mechanical stretch gives you a full range of motion as well.
The women’s Ambient jacket is cut to fit comfortably and not feel bulky — but also allows for a full range of motion.
Each piece also has convenient zippered chest and hand pockets, so you won’t be digging through layers to get your hands out of the cold, grab your phone, or stow your release.
The post-consumer recycled PrimaLoft Evolve insulation has many of the same properties as animal fur: Fibers of differing lengths and deniers create highly open structures that maximize airflow when on the move, and air entrapment when at rest. The result is optimal thermal performance in an uber-lightweight piece of kit.
