If we can blame 2020 for delaying “John Wick 4,” then we can celebrate 2020 for likely having it filmed back-to-back with a fifth installment. That’s right, according to reports, Lionsgate just greenlit “John Wick 5.”
‘John Wick 5’ Details
Back in 2014, a film entitled “John Wick” hit the big screen and the gun world fell in love. Why? It was a simple plot, but Hollywood finally got the gunplay right. Keanu Reeves trained like a mad man for the title role and three movies later, we still wanted more #PewPew.
Lionsgate announced “John Wick 4” days after “John Wick 3” hit theaters back in 2019. Originally slated for May 21, 2021, the studios delayed “John Wick 4” until May 27, 2022, courtesy of COVID-19. But rejoice, because apparently “John Wick 5” is on its way as well. According to Deadline, Lionsgate plans on filming both films back-to-back:
On today’s Lionsgate earnings call, the studio’s CEO John Feltheimer said, “We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our ‘John Wick’ action franchise, with ‘John Wick 4’ slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both ‘John Wick 4 and 5’ back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”
So it looks like the “John Wick” universe is about to get a lot bigger. Notice that Lionsgate mentioned, “when Keanu becomes available early next year.” That’s because he’s currently filming “The Matrix 4,” because why not? Hopefully “The Matrix 4” features a shootout like the original film. But back to Wick.
We’re about 21 months away from “John Wick 4” at the moment. And the fifth installment likely won’t hit theaters until 2023. Who knows what pandemic we’ll be dealing with at that point? So for now, enjoy the good news … and Reeves destroying the range with a SIG MPX.
