CZ-USA just took its popular .22 LR bolt-action rifle, the 457 Varmint Precision Trainer MTR, and overhauled it to meet the needs of serious rimfire shooters and anyone who wants to train for NRL-style matches more economically. Meet the new CZ 457 Varmint Precision Trainer Match Target Rifle (MTR).
The CZ 457 Varmint MTR was designed with the shooter in mind and provides the same look and feel as a full-size tactical rifle in a compact rimfire package. Chambered in .22 LR, this bolt gun allows a shooter to get trigger time on the cheap without burning through expensive hard-to-find centerfire rounds you might be shooting at your next match.
Training and competition aren’t the only potential uses for this rifle. This would make an excellent gun for getting new hunters and shooters comfortable behind a rifle.
With an MSRP of $1,636.00, you’re getting a competition-ready rimfire out of the box. The CZ 457 Varmint MTR gets its name from its match-grade chamber built with tight tolerances.
This model uses a cold hammer-forged and lapped 16.2-inch barrel, complete with threads for a suppressor or muzzle device. The shorter 16-inch barrel was adopted from other 457 Varmint Precision models and, in turn, was borrowed from the original CZ Match Target Rifle to increase accuracy.
The new bolt gun is built on the popular Manners carbon fiber stock, complete with an adjustable cheekpiece and a recessed forend that is drilled and tapped for use with an Arca rail to provide plenty of options for mounting a bipod on the rifle or the rifle on a tripod.
The CZ 457 Varmint MTR still has all of the features that other 457 series rifles are known for, including a fully adjustable trigger, a 5-round detachable box magazine, two-position push-to-fire safety, and integrated 11mm dovetails for rock solid scope ring mounting.
This new model is an update of the original VZ 457 VPT MTR, which was released in 2021. That version has since been discontinued and replaced with this updated version.
The release comes on the heels of the CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis rifle release — that rifle dropped in June 2022. They join the CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis MTR rifle, the CZ 457 Varmint Precision Trainer, and a CZ 457 Varmint model for lefties.
